I visited Skagit WMA last Thursday and saw a funny Sparrow/Grosbeak bird in the blackberry tangle near the entrance swamp. The ID of the bird really botherd me. I finally had a chance to check Thayers (Sibley is back in CAlif) : it was a young female Rose -breasted Grosbeak. I heard the Grosbeak chip but the bird was streaked all across the breast and buffy on both the breast and back --definitely no Black-headed Grosbeak. Bright white wing dots (like an antshrike for any neotrop birders)

We've been seeing RBGB's somewhere in N. Cal every year . I guess you'e seeing them now too.

I visit my grandkids up here several times a year and enjoy the birding.
