Hello tweeters,

I noticed some odd behavior from one of the four Great Blue Herons that was fishing near me satuday morning in Hood Canal. This one bird tried to catch a fish from the air and tried to grab my lure. When it tried to catch a fish it slowed down as if it were going to land but it was no where near anywhere it could have, then a fish rolled in front it. It did the same thing to my spinner when I was casting near the bank it was on, this time it got partially in the water. Its legs were dangling in the water and its belly got wet as it was following my lure. Another heron caught a pretty large salmon, maybe twenty inches, it had a pretty hard time handling it. I just bought a cheap digital camera just to keep in the boat.
Among all the usual birds was a Loon just off Salsbury Park and something that may have been a Common Goldeneye. I only saw its back and wings as it splashed down around a bend in the cove. Its wings were black with a white bar on each one, I couldn't see anything else but its back and wings. It made a loud wooshing sound as it flew over me, thats how I noticed it.
