still another way to store photos, and much cheaper in the long run: make
several copies on DVD or CD storage, then (1) one goes into local
safekeeping (your closet, home safe, etc), (2) one goes to a local safe
deposit box, (3) one goes to a trusted friend or family member in your
region, (4) and the last goes to a trusted friend or family member somewhere
not even remotely close to your location.

if your home burns, you still have a copy nearby. if your city suffers a
catastrophe, you can still recover from (4)... as well, if any one of the
copies goes bad, there are a few others ready to be re-burned...

This topic may seem off-topic but I think it is right
on topic as more and more birders are taking photos of
their finds. A good location to store these photos is
important.

I have found a location that allows storage of an
unlimited volume of photos for $50 per year.

The place is called Fotki.com and it has NO FILE SIZE
LIMITS, NO MAXIMUM STORAGE VOLUME LIMITS. It even
includes a feature that allows one (or friends) to
access photos on one's own computer from a remote
location using ptp. Also allows streaming vidoe.

Another popular site among birders, Pbase, charges $60
per year for less than one gigibyte.

Check it out. At least one other Tweeter has been
using fotki.com.
