On 23 Sep Trent Bray found 4 SABINE'S GULLS at the La Grande waste water
treatment ponds near La Grande, Union Co OR. The ponds are off limits on
weekends; check in at the office first during weekdays.

LAPLAND LONGSPURS were observed in Spokane Co WA by Jim Acton and others
last week. The birds were visiting small puddles along the road caused by
the irrigation systems. The birds were along Ladd Road between Hallett and
Thorpe, about 3 miles south of US 2 and about 2 miles east of the county
line. See WA DeLorme 88, D-2.

Two SURF SCOTERS were seen at the sewage ponds east of Sprague, Lincoln Co
WA on 23 Sep according to Theresa Mathis and Terry Little.

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were located in WA and ID on 25 Sep. Randy Hill
reports one in his yard in Othello, Grant Co WA and Bettie and Ray Hoff saw
one in their yard in Moscow, Latah Co ID.

At Mann Lake, east of Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID, Keith Carlson reports a
GREAT EGRET and a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER on 20 Sep. The egret was still there
on 24 Sep, but Terry Gray reports an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER had replaced the
BBPL. From the north end of Lewiston, follow US 12 south into town, cross
the Clearwater River on Memorial Bridge and immediately take the first left
(east) toward East Lewiston. Turn left (east) onto East Main Street and go
about a half mile to the flashing yellow lights. Turn right (south) onto
Lapwai (a.k.a. Lindsay Creek) Road. When the road forks stay right on
Lindsay Creek Road (Nez Perce County Road 460) and follow it about 5 miles
to its terminus at Grelle Avenue. Turn left (east) onto Grelle Avenue and
just past the sharp right curve, turn left (east) onto East Powers Avenue
(a.k.a. Lapwai Road). Continue straight (east) past the grain towers to the
main parking lot. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.

A BARRED OWL was visiting the yard of Tom Besser at the base of Moscow
Mountain, just north of Moscow, Latah Co ID, over the weekend.

Good birding.
