Hello Tweets,

We have updated our website of recent dragonfly and bird photos, specifically from the Nisqually NWR. These photos are accessible in our most recent dragonfly and bird galleries, which include the Dusky Flycatcher and an immature Red-tailed Hawk. The Dusky Flycatcher photos are mainly for proof(specifically for the location and the date)and due to lighting and other factors the photos were somewhat difficult to obtain at all. Both of these birds can be viewed at the following link:

Our most recent dragonfly photos include both Paddle-tailed and Blue-eyed Darners,as well as a nice specimen of a male Cardinal Meadowhawk. Dragonflies were abundant at times at the Nisqually NWR due to continued daytime warm temperatures and they should remain as long as a heavy frost doesn't occur. Many of the dragonflies were observed hunting over open fields,as well as patrolling along the immediate trails and edges of vegetation and a few specimens allowed for some photos,as they settled calmly on bushes and grass clumps. It is not easy to photograph darners since the are often viewed in flight, but occasionally they do rest! We also noticed that near the end of the dragonfly season(September-November for most species)they are often easiest to photograph. The photos of the Blue-eyed Darner at this location show rather "ragged" or worn wings,as a result of heavy breeding and a long season. This is common for dragonflies to appear this way, especially if they have survived the entire season. Our recent dragonfly photos can be viewed at the following link:

We hope you enjoy all our photos!

Sincerely,
