Thanks Gene, and everyone else who responded. With them having been seen at Discovery & Golden Gardens in the past 2 weeks, I am now 100% sure of my ID. I had felt the red bill and dark body color was pretty distinctive, and appreciate all who responded. Cheers!

Subject: [Tweeters] Carkeek Heermann's Gulls?

Hiya tweets,

Went for a walk at low tide this morning to Carkeek Park in NW Seattle. There were a number of Mew, Glaucous-winged, Western and Ring-billed Gulls, as well as crows and American Wigeons. Scattered amongst the gulls was one group that I am 99% positive were Heermann's. I just want a second opinion, as I didn't have my bins, but got pretty close to them. They definitely had bright red bills, were dark in color, and more the size of the Mews than the larger gulls. I also noted that the wings show two white spots; one at the tips and one further up the back when folded. I was pretty sure they were Heermann's, but am not used to seeing them this far north (maybe I haven't looked enough). Looking at Sibley's pretty well confirmed it, but I wanted to hear if anyone has positively ID'd Heermann's in the area recently. Thanks and good birding!
