Actually, tweeters has a surprisingly high number of NetKops relative
to the other half-dozen or so other email groups I belong to and
one or two of them are especially nasty.

I've been assailed for posting bird data from the wrong side of the
Columbia River (apparently 3 miles south of the Washington border
is out of bounds). I've been assailed for "googling". I've been
assailed for being skeptical about certain dubious sighting.

Tweeter NetKops are especially fond of correcting things that don't
really need correcting, from minor spelling errors to terms and concepts
that contradict what they learned from Mr. Blatherskite in 8th grade
biology.

I set my membership to NOMAIL now read Tweeters through Siler's
digest ( http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/TWET ) about a year ago.
I am far less likely to share information that is not "exciting" or is
"out of bounds" than I would have been when I first joined tweeters
6 or 8 years ago. I don't want to have to deal with the negativity of
these few individuals.

Of course if one yields to the terrorists the terrorists have won,
but one also has to choose one's battles wisely.
