I love to have Steller's jays in my yard, and peanuts are very effective for that purpose. Are peanuts OK for the jays, or is there something better I should feed them?

Where did the American goldfinches go? I have an upside-down feeder the goldfinches were attracted to for most of the summer, but now they've gone. I thought they would be around all year; friends have shown me pictures of goldfinch at their feeders when snow was on the ground not far from my house. I did switch to a cheaper thistle, and I'm wondering if that could be the problem.

I'm still seeing lots of house finches and quail.

Thanks,

Dick Martin
