Spent three days in central WA this week. Lots of SANDHILL CRANES and CANADA
GEESE with one SNOW GOOSE at C street off of Hwy 26. one YELLOW-HEADED
BLACKBIRD at potato ponds. A ROCK WREN, 2 HORNED LARKS, 3 CASPIAN TERNS, a
CURLEW in flight, and a lone GREAT EGRET in CNWR between Othello and
Potholes reservoir on the eastmost road. Watched two GREAT HORNED OWLS just
before dusk in the campground at potholes SP. Walked around at end of Corfu
Rd and saw many MEADOWLARKS and one CHUKAR of the many heard. In Vantage
area we saw two more ROCK WREN, VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS, SAY'S PHOEBE, SAGE
SPARROW and SAGE THRASHER. The thrashers are about the most fun to listen to
as any out there! On the entire trip we saw only 2 GREAT BLUE HERON.
Many others of course but these are the highlights.
Animals included some FOX SQUIRRELS at Potholes SP, a laid back
YELLOW-BELLIED MARMOT, a COYOTE and some very entertaining WASHINGTON GROUND
SQUIRRELS, mostly young ones about half grown.
I will post a note this afternoon when I get some pictures up.
