I have a customer who says she has a wild turkey that has started hanging around in her yard. She says it looks just like the turkey in "Birds of Washington" guidebook, but it seems tame (it will let her touch it) but not so tame as to eat out of her hand. I've read stories about how fearless they can be in suburbia in New England...so is this a wild one (and what is it doing in these parts all alone?), or an escaped pet? Isn't it illegal to keep native birds?

ALSO, I have another customer in Port Orchard who says he has a pair of three-toed woodpeckers in his yard. I was skeptical, but he's convinced that it's not a hairy or downey. I'm going to have to see about this...!

My first violet green swallow appeared on Wednesday, swooping in front of my sliding glass windows. I immediately went outside, and he swooped right at me. I took out the plastic bag blocking the hole of the swallow house (to keep out the HOSP), and we saw him nest-building in it the next morning. It feels so good to have him back!!
