Hi Tweeters,

Thanks to my fellow Tweeters that answered my
Tricolored Blackbird question I made the trek to see
them. I got to enter the state of blackbird bliss,
otherwise known as blackbird overload if you look at
it the wrong way. Maybe I saw a Tricolored, maybe
not, I'll never know at least for today. The weather
was amazing. There were nearly whitecaps at Para
Ponds in Othello. Lots of blackbirds there. I even
got out my scope in dedication to the chance of a
Tricolored, but between the wind and the rain I
couldn't say for sure if I saw one or not.

On highway 26 right at the Grant/Adams county marker
there was the most amazing flock of blackbirds, on
either side of the road was 100's-maybe 1000's-of
about equally mixed Brewer's, Yellow-headed, and
Red-winged Blackbirds. It was pouring so I used my
car as a blind. This works pretty well if the rain
isn't blowing clear across from the passenger side to
the drivers side. The passenger side really gets a
soaking though. I sifted through masses of blackbirds
for about 45 minutes. Being relatively dry I can say
I pretty sure didn't see a Tricolored here. It would
have been nice to get out explore around this area,
but I didn't bring an extra pair of clothes. Many
Canada Geese in the back ground, some Sandhill Cranes
and lots of flying around ducks in this area. All
told for the day I probably saw around 100 Sandhill
Cranes though I know there are many more around. They
really disperse. The largest group I saw was of about
12 birds.

Even without a definitive Tricolored Blackbird
sighting I enjoyed my trip. This is my first try for
them in Washington State. Maybe next time.
