Hello Tweeters:
Yesterday, March 2, my wife and I were eating our lunch in Rooks
Park near Walla Walla and watching a pair of Black-capped Chickadees
making trip after trip to their nest hole. They were so continually
busy that we felt they must be feeding young, although it seemed rather early in the season for such activity. I checked a few books
and found in "The Birds of Washington State" by Jewett et al. that the earliest egg date for this species in this area is April 15 and that doesn't mean they are hatched yet. What's going on? Any ideas? Global warming?
Also yesterday we saw our first Osprey for the year in Richland.
It had hauled a large fish up to last year's nest for a late lunch.
Finally, if anyone is interested, there are still two immature Glacous Gulls at the so-called "poop" piles along Hwy.12 near the Wallula pulp mill.
Cheers,
Bob Woodley
