Tuesday April 04, 2006:
"RARE BIRD ALERT"
A pair of MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS, along with a NORTHERN SHRIKE, a RING-NECKED
PHEASANT, several WESTERN MEADOWLARKS and SAVANNAH SPARROWS were seen at the
Nanaimo River Estuary in south Nanaimo..
The PAINTED BUNTING continues to be seen under the feeders in the 900 block
of Damelart Way in Brentwood Bay.
There have been a great number of reports of RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS returning
. A true sign of spring--it's great to have them back!

Monday April 03:
"RARE BIRD ALERT"
A male MOUNTIAN BLUEBIRD along with a NORTHERN SHRIKE and several SAVANNAH
SPAROWS were seen near the Viewing Tower at the Nanaimo River Estuary in
south Nanaimo.
A HUTTON'S VIREO was seen at the top of Corfield Road in Parksville.

Sunday April 02:
"RARE BIRD ALERT"
Eighty-five TUNDRA SWANS were seen at Cowichan Bay.

The Sunday Bird Walk went to the Nanoose Bay Estuary. Fourteen birders
found 35 species.
Among the highlights were a EURASIAN WIDGEON, a MERLIN, large flocks of
MALLARDS, AMERICAN WIDGEON, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, NORTHERN PINTAIL, EAGLES and
TURKEY VULTURES.
Two RING-BILLED GULLS were seen off shore at Parksville Bay.

Saturday April 01:
A small flock of YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were seen at Somenos Creek.
A female NORTHERN HARRIER was seen hunting over Somenos Marsh.
One BARRED OWL was heard calling in the Colliery Dam Park in Nanaimo.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was spotted on a Hydro line near Thatcher Road in south
Nanaimo.
One EVENING GROSBEAK was seen along Lakeside Drive in Cinnabar Valley.

Friday March 31:
Four GREATER YELLOWLEGS were seen on the Tofino mudflats in Tofino.
One OSPREY was seen flying over the east side of Colliery Dam Park in
Nanaimo.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen again on the Hydro lines near Thatcher Road in
south Nanaimo.

Tuesday March 28:
A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD has returned to feeders along Mapleguard Drive in
Bowser.
CACKLING GEESE and four YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER were seen at a pond on Kaye
Road in Parksville.
