This winter I have had more Snowy Owl sightings than in my whole life put
together, and wondered if others have seen this many this past winter
season. All sightings but one were in Douglas Co., as on April 1st I saw
one near Duly Lake in Okanogan Co.

My first sighting was November 23rd and so far, my last sighting was April
4th. Sometimes we saw a bird, went and got a friend and took them up to
see the same bird. I did not count that as 2 sightings, just one. My
total so far is 99 Snowy Owls!!!!! My best guess is that this included
some 25 to 30 individual birds. What fun it has been. I've never tried
to see how late they are around, because we only had 2 or 3 in the
County. Don't know if we will get any more or not.

Most were seen on Rd. F, between Sprauer and 12th (which is west; north
west of Waterville). The April birds were found above Bridgeport on Rd. 26
to 28, between A and B, so the birds seem to be moving north; north east,
and may have moved 16 miles or so, following the melting snow. On Rd. F we
consistently saw 3 to 10 birds. Most observed in one outing was 11. On
April 4th we saw three. Just thought someone else might be
interested. Meredith Spencer
