Hi tweets,

I am amused to read arguments concerning the pros and cons of Russian Olive
trees, blackberries etc.

People whom I know to be highly intelligent are offering their thoughtful
insights into the relative value of this or that rationale. As other
intelligent people have noticed, the real threats to the survival of diverse
wildlife are pollution, overpopulation, loss of habitat, and global
warming-caused by all of the above. The time has come-though it is probably
too late-to dig in our heels and save the best habitat and forget about the
rest. The next hundred years will bring a new earth; similar to the one we
know, just a lot hotter. If you have grandchildren take them to see the
glaciers on Mt. Rainier. They'll be gone in 50 years. Take them to see
Ocean Shores and Long Beach. They'll only be visible at low tide in the
future. Seattle birders in the late 21st century will be reporting crows,
grackles, pigeons, starlings, and not much else. If this "off topic" I
refuse to apologize.

Good birding, Alan Roedell Seattle
