This morning my wife Pipper and I located an adult Marbled Godwit on
the beach at the Nature Conservancy, Foulweather Bluff Preserve here in Kitsap
County. It seemed content to probe the beach and preen while mixing with a
small flock of Mew Gulls. Later we were joined by Brad Waggoner who also enjoyed
good looks at this bird and took some pictures. We birded toward
Point-No-Point after that and on the road back to the point, Brad spotted a Townsend's
Solitaire atop a fir tree. Shortly we found 2-3 more as they appeared to be
feeding on the berries from a small holly tree.
The Yellow-billed Loon located by Brad yesterday in Suquamish, first,
just south of the fishing dock, and then later east of that spot, was not
relocated today, as far as I know. It was blustery and rainy on our way back to
Bainbridge, with the birds very scattered due to some sailboat activity. We
plan on trying again tomorrow morning for the loon hoping this passing front
won't move it from the immediate area.
