I too have noticed the lack of Pine Siskins this year and also very few
House Finches. I put out Black Oil Sunflower seed, Niger seed, shelled
peanuts, peanuts in the shell, millet and vegan suet. In past years we have
had lots of House Sparrows favoring the millet; many House Finches eating
the sunflower seeds; many Pine Siskins and a few Goldfinches eating the
Niger (among other birds). This year I have not seen any Pine Siskins at
all. We have had MANY Goldfinches eating both the Niger and the Sunflower
seeds-way more than in previous years. We have had very few Houses Finches
and even fewer House Sparrows. The other visitors have been in the same
numbers as previous years.

Not long ago, someone else inquired about the lack of siskins this year. A
friend in Puyallup tells me that last year she had some but many were sick
and has had none this year. Has anyone come forward with any information?
We've had none at our feeders so far this year.
