Reading about the Stellar's Jays eating the flower buds on the
Dogwood tree reminds me that this is the first spring that I've noticed
House Finches picking flowers on my plum trees. They seem to nibble the
ends of the flowers and then let them drop to the ground. I guess
they're getting the nectar. I wonder if the trees will bear much fruit
this year.
I also notice that when I go out to refill the feeders, the first
birds to grab a seed while I'm still out there are the chickadees and
sometimes the red-breasted nuthatches. The other birds wait until I've
left.
