Yes, the Wenas Campground is gated until May 1st as a way to protect and prevent harassment of elk that winter in the area. The burn above Mud Lake is also protected in the same way.

I was up in the campground working this week and was surprised to find a male Black-backed Woodpecker foraging on a dead pine in the campground. This is the first time I have seen this species outside of a burn. I also saw my first Red-naped Sapsucker of the year eagerly drilling new sap wells. The resident pair of White-headed Woodpeckers was also in attendance.
