This morning I was fortunate enough to locate an adult Little Gull within a
flock of about 400 Bonaparte's Gulls. It was in the waters off of Lynwood
Center which is at the southwestern side of Bainbridge Island. After braving
the cold south winds George Gerdts, Doug Watkins and I were able to
re-locate it on the beach just west of Lynwood Center. At this spot we
enjoyed wonderful views. Although there is some white flecking within the
black head, the adult gull is in alternate plumage. In flight, the dark
underside of the wings is the most obvious field mark to help distinguish it
from the Bonaparte's Gulls.
