Tweeters,
Made a quick run-through (<3 hrs) of some of the areas of Ft Lewis on
Easter Sunday (first time I've been there in over 15 years that I didn't
hear any small-arms or other firing). Areas visited included 91st Div
Prairie, Brandenburg Marsh, Chambers Lake, and Johnson Marsh. Cool south
wind (5-15 kts), and relatively quiet in most places.

Some habitat restoration work in progress just beyond the east side of
91st Div Prairie just before Brandenburg Marsh. Extensive areas of
Scotch Broom have been cleared.

Birds seen (39 spp):

Wood Duck
Mallard
Hooded Merganser (about the 10th year I've seen them at Brandenburg
Marsh)
Ring-necked Pheasant
California Quail (heard)
Pied-billed Grebe
Bald Eagle
Red-tailed Hawk
Virginia Rail (heard)
American Coot
Killdeer
Rufous Hummingbird
Belted Kingfisher
Northern Flicker
American Crow
Common Raven (definitely increasing numbers on base in the last 20
years)
Tree Swallow
Violet-green Swallow
Barn Swallow
Bushtit
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Bewick's Wren
Marsh Wren
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Western Bluebird
American Robin (many at 91st Div Prairie)
European Starling
Orange-crowned Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
Spotted Towhee
Savannah Sparrow
Song Sparrow
White-crowned Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Red-winged Blackbird
Western Meadowlark (heard)
House finch
American Goldfinch

Apparently too early for the following species: Yellow Warbler,
Chipping Sparrow (two of the most common), House Wren, and Purple
Martin. No flycatchers, either.

May all your birds be identified,
