Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday April 20. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On April 17 a BLUE GROSBEAK was photographed at Oaks Bottom in southeast
Portland. It could not be relocated. A probable BROWN THRASHER was just
south of Yachats for several days during the week. The male TUFTED DUCK was
seen April 15 on the Tillamook River south of Tillamook.

Migrations are now greatly increasing with CHIPPING SPARROWS, YELLOW-HEADED
BLACKBIRDS, BANK SWALLOWS, and sparrows now moving through.

On April 18 a PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATER was off Coos Bay. An early PACIFIC
GOLDEN-PLOVER was seen April 13 on the North Spit of Coos Bay. On April 16 a
LESSER GOLDFINCH was sat Toledo, east of Newport. A flock of 146 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS was seen April 14 along Wireless Road near Astoria.

On April 18 a BLUE JAY was near the Elks Lodge in St. Helens. On April 19 a
RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER was at Mt. Tabor Park in Portland. A late ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWK was at the Portland Airport April 19. Several SHORT-EARED OWLS are
still being seen there. The MOCKINGBIRD is still being seen at the Sandy
River Delta. On April 14 two BLACK SWIFTS were over the Rock Creek section
of northwest Portland. An early WESTERN TANAGER was seen April 16 near
Dundee. Two WHITE PELICANS arrived at Fern Ridge Reservoir April 16. Four
WESTERN KINGBIRDS were in the Rogue Valley April 18.

On April 15 eight GREATER SCAUP were on Prineville Reservoir and 10 COMMON
LOONS were on Ochoco Reservoir. One COMMON LOON was at the Prineville Sewage
Ponds April 17. On April 19 six WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and a BLACK-NECKED STILT
were at Hatfield Lake near Bend.
