Sorry for the lateness of this notice. The Au Sable Institute is hosting an
open house this Saturday from 1:00-3:00 on it?s grounds southeast of
Coupeville, Whidbey Island. My wife will be leading flower walks in the
forest and on the prairie and I?ll be tagging along as a ?bird guy?. The
focus is on the plans for the site including the construction of student and
faculty housing. There will also be a tour of the greenhouse in which native
forbs and grasses being readied for reintroduction on the prairie.
>From the south:
* Hwy 525 becomes Hwy 20. Follow 20 past the Navy?s Outlying Field which is
on the left.
*After a big bend to the right the hwy straightens out. Parker Road
intersects the hwy at the end of the straight section.
*Turn north onto Parker and follow the signs for parking. The area will be
on your right within a city block or so.
I found a Townsend?s Solitaire out there on Monday and there?s always
raptors around. Stop by if you?re on the way to Crockett?s Lake.
