I need help on a woodpecker I saw this afternoon (5PM) at Wallace Swamp
Creek Park in Kenmore. I know the 5 woodpeckers that inhabit this park. I
thought that what I saw today was a Hairy but something just wasn't quite
right. It had too much red on its head and his bill was too short but not
as short as a Downy's. There was red on his chin, forehead and the back
of his head. I did not see him fly but as he clung to the side of the
tree the edge of his wing had chevrons of white instead of stripes. I was
interrupted by a lady walking her dog. After I had talked to them for a
while he was gone so I don't have any more of a description. He was on a
cottonwood tree, drinking from sapsucker wells (or eating bugs attracted
to the sap) Could I have seen a Red-napped Sapsucker?
