Today must be the day for Purple Martins! I walked around Nisqually NWR this afternoon. I heard and then saw a single Purple Martin flying high over me while walking out the road to McCallister Creek. A few other birders were looking for the Great Horned Owl family, but none of us had any luck. I did find a few shorebirds out on the exposed mudflats of the creek. They included 9 Least Sandpipers, one Greater Yellowlegs, and a lone Killdeer. Out near the mouth of the creek was a spectacular breeding plumaged Horned Grebe.
