Hi Tweeters,

I talked to a woman today who left several messages on the Yakima Valley
Audubon Socitey's phone line yesterday about an injured American White
Pelican that she sees sitting on a island in the Yakima River east of Union
Gap (which is just south of Yakima). It has been sitting on the same
island for about eight days. It appears to have a broken
wing. Unfortunately, if a bird's broken wing is not set within 24 hours,
the damage is permanent. She suspects it was shot. She has called every
agency she can think of to try to get some help for the pelican. There
are several bird rehabilitators in our area but they all specialize in
raptors. If anyone knows a rebaher who might be interested in trying to
save this pelican, please call me tomorrow (Sunday) at (509) 952-2550.
