Hi Tweets:
I went down to GRNRA (Kent Ponds) in the late afternoon and viewed the ponds
from the South Tower and from the Powerline Trail. Mud was showing but
there were no shorebirds at Kent Ponds. I went over to the fields on S
204th (turn north from S 212th at Frager Road or drop down from Orillia at S
204th) about 6pm and that was where the shorebirds were. Viewing from the
NW corner by the mailboxes: Least Sandpipers - 100 to 200, Western
Sandpipers - approx. 6, Dunlin - 1, Lesser Yellowlegs - 1, and later 2 more
flew in, Killdeer - several and two cute baby KILL. Gene Hunn and friends
were viewing and they saw 3 Greater Wht-fronted Geese in with Canada Geese
from the east end of S 204th. They had been down at S 285th earlier in the
day, where they had seen other shorebirds including DUNL, Leasts, and
Greater Yellowlegs. Many thanks to Matt Bartels and to Carl Haynie who
wrote about the shorebird possibilities in this area! I hope the water
remains in the fields just a little longer. Pray for rain?
Yours, Carol Schulz
