I've built a set of steps to my alley-side carport roof, and have been enjoying lovely birding up there. I've seen bald eagles three times; saw one yesterday, and last weekend there was a group of four. Red tails and Cooper's hawks come by occasionally, a merlin twice. Two weeks ago I saw an Osprey and my first barn swallow for this year. This weekend a violet-green was swooping about for a bit.

There are at least 3 Anna's hummers guarding nearby territories and they regularly interact. One has claimed a small snag above a bushy area just acrss the alley, so I watch him constantly. I finally got to hear the 'pop' when an Anna's divebombs. He does it often, to everyone within reach: bushtits, robins, other hummers, the Bewick's wrens. After he 'pops', he hovers, glaring down at his target, and often levitates up again, all the while staring down. Very fun to watch.
