Montlake Fill has been a great place for birding over the last few days as
others' reports have attested, and this afternoon did not disappoint. On a
quick walk before dinner, I saw several American pipits and a solitary
sandpiper hanging out along the shallow drying pond in the southeast corner.
The Wilson's snipe flew up out of cattails encircling the other pond at that
end. And my favorite was a pair of talkative Virginia rails who also
obliged some good looks. Here's to spring!
