Hello Tweeters,



I stopped by the Montlake Fill around lunch-time and again this evening to
see if I could find some of the interesting birds that have been reported
there recently. The male Yellow-headed Blackbird was hanging around the
cat-tails at the south end around 1:00. Quite a few ducks were on the ponds
and bay, including a pair of Cinnamon Teal in the west pond which allowed
some amazing looks. Shorebirds were few, with just a flock of 7 Least
Sandpipers all day, and one Semipalmated Plover this evening. Tons of
swallows were feeding over the main pond - over 100 Barn, 25 Tree, 15
Violet-Green, and 3 Northern Rough-winged. And the Greater White-fronted
Goose is still hanging around with the local Canadas.



All these birds at the Fill have gotten me thinking about Big Sits. I?m
considering doing one sometime this spring. The Fill seems like it could
provide a good mix of birds, with a variety of habitats and lots of birds
moving through most days. I?ve been pondering other spots around the state.
The place that first comes to mind is Point No Point ? a good combination of
waterbirds, passerine migrants, and miscellaneous fly-by possibilities. I?m
sure there are places along the coast near Ocean Shores or Leadbetter Point
that would also be good. I don?t have any ideas for eastern Washington, but
would like to hear some. Anyone out there have sites they think would be
particularly good for a big sit?
