Hi Tweeters,

The injured American White Pelican that has been sitting on a small island
in the Yakima River since about April 19 was rescued yesterday by the
Yakima County Sheriff's Office search and rescue squad. There is a nice
story about it on the front page of today's Yakima Herald Republic. The
rescue went very smoothly. The pelican jumped into the water as the boat
approached, which made it very easy for it to be netted. It was then taken
to the Selah Raptor House Rehabilitation Center in Selah. They will be
looking for a permanent home for it while it recuperates. Maida Hodgett,
who first saw the pelican on its island, is to be congratulated for her
perseverance in finding someone to rescue it. It turned out to be more
complicated than one might expect to find a group who could handle the
rescue safely.

Photos of this poor pelican are in the new photos folder on my website.
