I went out to Bowerman on Thursday to celebrate my b'day, arriving
just before high tide and staying until well past. I spent a lot of
time going through the Westerns looking for a Least, which I never
did find, but I did find one bird that I think may have been a
Semipalm. In comparison to the Westerns, this bird showed not a trace
of red, and over all the dorsal coloration was browner and somewhat
less contrasty. This bird also showed no spotting on the flanks,
again in contrast to most (but not quite all) of the Westerns. Having
not i.d.-ed an Semipalm before, I'd appreciate any comments, pro or
con.

The other highlights were two succesful peregrine attacks on the
flock. I wasn't able to see the actual kill, but both times the
falcon flew off with prey. In both cases it was an immature bird, so
it may have been the same individual.
