Subject: [Tweeters] Hermit Thrush in my yard; Cat in my yard

I have two different (yet unfortunately related) questions.

1. A Hermit Thrush showed up in my yard three days ago and is still here. Why would a Hermit Thrush want to stay in my yard? I'm in West Seattle, near the Alaska junction...I've got a couple large conifers and a few shrubs. But this is unquestionably residential yard. He showed up and I figured he'd leave right away, but he isn't. Has anyone had a similar visitor in not-very-good habitat?

2. As I was watching out the kitchen window in the general direction of the Hermit Thrush, lots of House Finches, and even a newly arrived Golden-crowned Sparrow, to my bewilderment and great frustration, a sleek little white cat showed up. I rushed out and scared him off. But I fear he'll be back. Any advice on traps for cats? As in, where do I get one...does anyone have one I could just borrow? I'd like to trap the cat and take it to the Humane Society. Also, hints on where to drop off errant cats would be most appreciated.

Thanks!
