April 30, 2006. The following interesting birds have been reported in
Spokane County during the past 4 days:

There were an amazing 20 new county year birds being: BLUE-WINGED
TEAL,
WESTERN GREBE, SOLITARY SANDPIPER, WESTERN KINGBIRD, BANK SWALLOW,
PEREGRINE
FALCON, ROCK WREN, HOUSE WREN, FERRUGINOUS HAWK, DUSKY FLYCATCHER,
GRAY
FLYCATCHER, BONAPARTE'S GULL, LARK SPARROW, WESTERN TANAGER, and
TOWNSEND'S,
WILSON'S, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, NASHVILLE, MACGILLIVRAY'S and YELLOW
WARBLERS

bringing the group year list to 179. Check out the progress at

The first BLUE-WINGED TEAL was at Peone Prairie April 23.
The first WESTERN GREBE was on Clear Lake April 23.
The first SOLITARY SANDPIPER was at Peone Prairie April 26. Another
was
east of Cheney April 28.
The first WESTERN KINGBIRD was at Peone Prairie April 26. Another was
at
Turnbull NWR April 27.
The only BANK SWALLOW reported was at Philleo Lake April 23.
The Spokane nesting PEREGRINE FALCON returned April 21 for its 13th
year.
Another was at Eloika Lake April 30.
The first ROCK WREN and HOUSE WREN were near Tower Mt April 27.
The first FERRUGINOUS HAWK was found by an Audubon Field Trip near
Silver
Lake April 29. It has not been seen again.
Single DUSKY FLYCATCHERS were at Tower Mt & SW of Cheney April 30.
GRAY FLYCATCHERS arrived April 28 at the Little Spokane River.
The first BONAPARTE'S GULL was on Medical Lake April 30.
The first LARK SPARROW was south of Cheney April 30.
The first WESTERN TANAGER was at Riverside State Park April 30.
The first TOWNSEND'S WARBLER was SW of Cheney April 30.
The first WILSON'S WARBLER was at Riverside State Park April 30.
The first COMMON YELLOWTHROAT was at Peone Prairie Wetland April 26.
The first NASHVILLE WARBLER was at Peone Prairie April 26.
The first MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER was at Riverside State Park April 29.
The first YELLOW WARBLER'S were at the Palisades and also the Little
Spokane
River April 29.

A rare SNOW GOOSE has been west of Cheney at Salnave & Graham Roads
April 27
thru at least April 30. This is the 2nd Snow Goose for the county
year.

The GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE continues at the Liberty Lake golf course.
Try the corner of Molter & Valley Way.

3 SANDHILL CRANES were at the Peone Prairie Wetland April 27 for the
only
report this year away from extreme SW Spokane Co.

2 late TUNDRA SWANS were near Turnbull NWR April 27.

Shorebird migration is still slow.
