It won't be long 'til our summer vulture visitors and their new
progeny will be on their way south - about a month and the early
birds will take off. Thanks so much for all your reports. Turkey
vultures seem to be doing well in our area. Following is the report
of turkey vulture sightings in Washington, British Columbia, and
Oregon for July 2006:

01 -- 1 at Roy
02 -- 2 at Cypress Provincial Park, B.C.; 1 over Rattlesnake Lake; 1
between Winthrop and Mazama; 1 seen regularly from the Goat Peak Fire
Lookout at 7,000'; 2 at Kalama
03 -- 7 soaring over the Tualco Loop Road with a redtail, bald eagle,
and an accipiter; 1 soaring over the upper Yakima River Canyon (Hwy
10); 1 over Heart of the Hills, Olympic NP; 1 at Camas
05 -- 2 seen regularly near Ferndale; 1 in Central Park, Grays Harbor
County; 4 between Hoquiam and Ocean Shores
06 -- 6 south of Misery Springs, Asotin County
07 -- 2 at Bowerman Basin
08 -- 1 at the South Nemah River; 2 east of Brady
09 -- 1 flying low over the Oyhut WA; (?) at Cedar, B.C.; 1 over
Taylor Mountain north of Hobart; (?) at Cooliery Dam Park in Nanaimo, B.C.
10 -- (?) at Top of the Bridge RP, Parksville, B.C.
11 -- 2 , possibly 4, flying high near Mattawa
12 -- 10 in a kettle near the Dungeness River
14 -- 6 at Brady; 1 west of Brady; 4 over the Humptulips River; 1
north of Ocean Shores
15 -- 1 near Stanwood; 2 circling over the Black Hills; 1 over Guemes Island
16 -- 2 at Elma; 1 immature near Montesano feeding on a raccoon; 4
over Central Park; 3 west of Aberdeen; 10 at the Johns River WRA; 2
over Ocosta; 8 at Westport; 3 over Midway Beach Road; 2 over
Tokeland; 2 over North Cove; (?) at Neck Point Park in Nanaimo, B.C.;
1 south of Mt. Vernon
17 -- 1 at Roy; 1 circling over sw Olympia
19 -- 5 on the ground and 5 in the air at Rannie Road in Pitt Meadows, B.C.
20 -- (?) in Kittitas County
21 -- 1 west of the Wynoochee River
22 -- 1 near the John Wayne Marina
23 -- 1 close-up near the Elk Heights burn; 1 north of Oak Harbor; 3
feeding on something at the shoreline on San Juan Island; 2 northeast of Sequim
24 -- 1 sitting at the edge of a field near Sumner; 1 circling near Bonney Lake
26 -- 3 adults at Grant Narrows, B.C.
27 -- 3 at Midway Beach eating a common murre carcass
28 -- 1 over Nisqually NWR; 5 between Brady and Montesano; 2 at
Central Park; 1 at Ocean City
29 -- 1 rocking back and forth north of Satsop; 1 at Ridgefield NWR
30 -- (?) at Buttertubs Marsh, Nanaimo, B.C.; 1 near Sun Mountain
31 -- 2 in Sultan; 1 in Goldbar
