Yesterday while lolling about in the garden I heard the cries of a hawk up
above me. I move into the road for a better look and there where two hawks,
most likely coopers, although I did not have my bins with me at the moment.
One hawk was circling above the other and the lower of the two was the one
making all the calling. They were quite high, the hawk above was moving
harder and getting higher up from the lower one. Then the upper hawk dropped
something! The lower hawk swooped after it, hit it but did not actually
catch it, and the item fell into the trees. What I think I saw was an adult
working on training a youngster by dropping some prey for Jr. to try to
catch. Sort of hawk school. I hung around for quite some time hoping for
another lesson but apparently the bell had rung and school was over for the
day.
