Hi,
The young eaglet is still doing well, and I have started noticing my other birds again.

We decided the money I saved for a brand new GOOD scope needed to go into landscaping the front yard. A big sacrifice for me, as I have wanted a new scope for about 7 years. But we needed to tear out the grass in the front, and we are putting in all flower, and shrub beds, trees as well. (as much native stuff as possible) We have my son's best friend who is an organic landscaper; and he is doing a great job. I am anxious to get this project done, as we will have successful low maintenance plants the birds will love.

Hummingbirds, I have several Rufous, all seem to be juveniles. We have Cardinal Lobelias, and several hardy fushias that they battle over, as well as petunias.

The Pileated Male has returned, (and has hammered on the old bird house) but not the female or any youngsters. The male is very copper colored, has been since this past winter. Is this a sign that he is getting on in years???? I am glad that he didn't bring the family, (if he ended up with one) the eagles would have taken them out in a flash, if they didn't already.

The Black Headed Grosbeaks disappeared for quite a while, and one is now back, just a juvie on that as well. There are nice numbers of fledgling local birds, and the Pacific Slope calls still from the trees.

Hairies, Downies, Flickers off and on all day, but no Sapsuckers lately.

My Bewick's has been hanging out in the sunflower chips, and eating them; quite a surprise to me. This is an adult doing this. Lots of Bushtits still hit our Aphid (birch)tree, which has survived another summer of no treatment. I simply couldn't take the chance of killing all the Lady Beetle larve, they kept coming; even in late July.

My Douglas squirrels, both male and female come around everyday now, and enjoy the freedom of not having so many grey squirrels to compete with. They have hanging trays, and one has even climbed the driftwood outside the office window to look at us!
