Subject: [Tweeters] Young Seattle Scrub-Jays

Hi tweeters,

Yesterday evening there were two juvenile Western
Scrub-Jays making a racket in the small yard behind my
apartment near the intersection of 20th and Union in
Seattle's Central District. I see/hear Scrub-Jays
often around here and for a while this spring they
were gathering nesting material in my yard daily,
although I never tracked down where the actual nest
was. I don't know if a pair nested this year near the
arboretum as they have in years past, but my hunch is
that this Central District location represents another
nesting pair.

Also, I've heard Scrub-Jays a few times in the past
couple of weeks in the International District on the
long block formed by S King St. and S Weller St. on
the north and south, and by 12th Ave S and Rainier Ave
S on the west and east.

And the colonization of Central Seattle continues
(with all these Scrub-Jays it's beginning to look a
lot like Portland)...

Good birding,

Sam Terry
Seattle
