A group of 4 Stellars Jays flashed into the yard, and it appeared to my
unbinoculared eye that it was a family group of an adult and 3 juveniles.
They poked around the yard, occasionally making commentary about things, but
the youngsters seemed to be poking and foraging about in earnest. At one
point, with great comical effect, one of the kids leapt up into the air with
a squawk of surprise and a tree frog went boinging off in another direction.
And then the hunt was ON, and all three kids swarmed the area, poking and
thrashing about, and having lots of choice things to say to ickle froggy.
>From my comfortable perch I could watch them quite well and they did not
appear to ever find the frog, and after a few minutes of hard searching one
of them perched above the fray and a gave a loud and continual set of calls,
which sure sounded like cursing to me.
