Tweets,

Yesterday six of us enjoyed a pleasant day at Nisqually under overcast skies
in cool conditions. Much nicer day for a walk compared to the recent heat.

As Patrick and Ruth stated the ponds out toward McAllister Creek are drying
up rapidly and there were no shorebirds there yesterday. Shorebirds continue
out along McAllister Creek toward the photo blind, but that was not part of
yesterday's walk.

The only shorebirds we saw were on the exposed mud at McAllister Creek due
to low tide. We did see GREATER YELLOWLEGS, WESTERN SANDPIPER, KILLDEER, and a
SPOTTED SANDPIPER. along the trail to McAllister Creek we did see a WILSON'S
SNIPE and an AMERICAN BITTERN.

At the visitor center observation platform we saw BARN, CLIFF, TREE and
VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS, WARBLING VIREOS, and VAUX SWIFT. the first of the year
for that species.

In the riparian area along the boardwalk to the twin barns we saw WILSON'S
WARBLERS and a flock of BUSHTITS and a BEWICK'S WREN.

Although we saw 44 species total, it was a pretty slow day with not many of
any species. The VAUX SWIFT was new for the year. We did see a large flock of
blackbirds gathering for fall migration.

Even the mammals were scarce, with none being sighted.

Until next week....
