Hi:

It had not shown up again by 11:45.
Don Norman is familiar with puffins and was the first person to identify it
as a Horned rather than a Tufted Puffin. None of the other people who saw
it, including yours truly, had much experience with puffins or had a scope
or field guide, as everyone was down there for a project. It wasn't until a
bit later that someone with a scope and field guide confirmed Don's ID.
The bird was close to shore; perhaps it will be in the same area right after
the morning high tide tomorrow. It was a very nice surprise on a beautiful
morning!
