1139 AM: USDA confirmed that two wild mute swans in Michigan tested positive
for a low-pathogenic type of the H5N1 strain of bird flu. USDA emphasized
that this strain was not dangerous to humans but added that it could evolve
into a more virulent form. A similar strain of H5N1 to the type announced
today had been found in Canada earlier this year.
