I was surprised to find a flicker at the edge of my little garden pond
yesterday. What was more surprising was that it was nabbing honeybees that
were landing to get water. It grabbed 4 while I was watching, then had a
drink to wash them down and took off. It made an audible snapping noise with
its bill as it grabbed them, perhaps mashing them quickly so they did not
sting? There was a group of about 100 pine siskins today and they cleaned
out my feeder before chattering off to the west.
