Aug 15, 2006. The following interesting birds have been reported in Spokane
County during the past two weeks.

A first ever Spokane County GREEN HERON was found Aug 7 in the valley in a
pond at the Good Samaritan Center in Green Acres. It is still being seen.

Directions: Take the Sullivan exit south from I-90 about 1/2 mile, and turn
left (east) on Sprague Ave. In less than 1 mile, turn right (south) on
Tschirley Rd. Go about 1/2 mile south to where the road "L's" into 8th.
Follow the road right on 8th (west) and park at the first parking lot on the

right (~100yds). Walk across the road and explore the pond immediately
south of the road by the paved trail that goes around the whole thing.

The Green Heron puts our group year list up to 229. Check out the progress
at http://www.spokaneaudubon.org/

A few migrating shorebirds continue to be reported being mostly Greater &
Lesser Yellowlegs & Solitary Sandpipers. On Aug 15, a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE
was near Mead. Also Aug 15, at the north end of West Medical Lake were 3
BAIRDS, 5 WESTERN & 2 LEAST SANDPIPERS. They were on the moss as there is
no mud.

On Aug 13, a LEAST FLYCATCHER was on the Corder ranch.

BLACK TERNS are about gone, but 2 were still at West Medical Lake Aug 15.

A PINE SISKIN arrived in north Spokane Aug 12. They have been very rare
this year away from Mt Spokane.

A MERLIN was at the Peone Wetland Aug 5.

Good Birding,
