I hope you were only being a smart aleck there Stewart. Bufo marinus, aka cane toad, would be a nightmare. Not to mention that they're pretty much terrestrial, as opposed to Rana the bullfrog, which is strongly aquatic.

I am enjoying all the chatter about herps, though. In early spring I found two herptiles in the leaf litter in my yard: a northern alligator lizard and a salamander of some sort, about 3 inches snout-vent length and a light brown in color. I suspect they were there because I have so many crickets in my yard.

Which prompts another question: Anybody know what kind of crickets we have here in Washington? On the wet side? I live less than a mile from the Black River Riparian Forest.
The crickets in my yard strongly resemble the kind one can buy in pet stores, although these are much much darker, almost black. I love hearing their chirps on warm days. I've tried finding specific info on the web, the closest I've come is "Crickets North of Mexico".
