Well, yesterday some friends and I were talking about what species of
warblers I had seen in our yard in 14 years, and this one didn't come
up. I just had a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH in the back yard, watched it
for quite a few minutes foraging on bare soil under shrubs and trees.
I glanced out at one point and saw something run from one shrub patch
to another. I thought I saw a vertical component to that quick
horizontal dash, and I thought "omigod, a waterthrush." After some
intense scrutiny from the window, I finally saw it emerge from the
shrubs. It remained visible while I got distant but recognizable
photos of it. Subsequently, I went out for an hour and haven't seen
it since I returned, but I'll bet it's still out there somewhere.
