Most feed stores in Washington sell day old Bobwhite quail and Chukar
during May and June. It should be expected that many of these birds
will be purchased, then released into the environment at some point if
they have not been butchered, released for hunters, or used to train
hunting dogs. Very few, if any, are successfully breeding in my
opinion, except possibly in the SE part of the state.

For the purposes of listing, all Bobwhite Quail seen in Washington
should be considered to be hatchery birds, in my opinion and too
suspect to count on a list. Likewise, any Chukar found west of the
Columbia Basin in Washington is certainly a hatchery bird.
