I had a nice day in Skagit County today. The Game Range had a good variety
of migrants and other birds including the following:

Common Merganser (1)
Sharp-shinned Hawk (1)
Virginia Rail (14)
Wilson's Snipe (2)
Great Horned Owl (1 sitting on the ground bobbing its head at me!)
W.Wood-Pewee, Olive-sided, Willow & Pacific-slope Flycatchers (1 each)
Warbling Vireo (10+)
Orange-crowned Warbler (5)
Yellow Warbler (30+)
Townsend's Warbler (1)
Northern Waterthrush (1)
Common Yellowthroat (40+)
Wilson's Warbler (2)
Western Tanager (1)

River Otter (1)

The rest of Fir Island was quiet with a White-crowned Sparrow at the Jensen
Access being the only minor surprise. Channel Drive was pretty good with
great views of everything (especially nice for me without a scope):

Green-winged Teal (6)
Northern Pintail (50)
Cinnamon Teal (1)
California Quail (38!, I was surprised to see any)
Short-billed Dowitcher (1 juv)
Greater Yellowlegs (6)
Lesser Yellowlegs (3)
Least Sandpiper (50)
Pectoral Sandpiper (2 juv)

>From Bayview State Park I counted approximately 310 Great Blue Herons.
There was a Cooper's Hawk on Samish Island and then another one in Edison.
The West 90 and the ponds on Green Road had nothing interesting. There was
an American Kestrel on Kelleher Road. 82 species for the day.

Good birding,
