Hi again,

That sounds like a good place for an old out-of-print bird book (Slater Museum).

Newer Canadian (BC) books show the Spruce Grouse getting sparringly to the coast well north of Vancouver. And one of them shows the map colored all the way to the coast, but not any nearby islands (1986 book). I also recall reading that they were hunted out near Vancouver, but don't know where I saw that. Oh well...
