Without offering specifics, I suggest getting off I 94 to whatever
extent your schedule allows. The northern plains states you mention
generally have excellent secondary roads, paved, smooth, and
relatively straight, running reasonably parallel to the interstate
in many places, at a distance where you wont hear the interstate
noise . Driving these secondary roads can be a trip back in time,
with many opportunities for spontaneous stops, with an abundance of
fence posts, and perching birds, close to the road in many areas.

Date: Sun, 27 Aug 2006 10:26:26 -0700 I'll be driving back from the east
coast during the last week in September, and I was wondering if anyone
has birding recommendations for Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota,
or Montana. I'll be taking I-94 through those states.
